48” tall x 72” wide x 3” deep Dyed plywoods, hand dyed handwoven cotton fabric, corrugated steel.
The designs of most of the wall pieces in this series are inspired by Oriental rugs. They have a center focal point surrounded by multiple borders and frames. I used to work in a facility that repaired and washed Oriental rugs and their influence runs deep within my aesthetic. With Oona, I took the liberty of copying a specific Bidjar whose photograph I often turn to in a book I have about Oriental rugs. I’ve included the photo so you can see my reference. The design is totally Bidjar, but the colors represent varying aspects of Colorado. The deep blue of the sky, the bright green of aspen leaves, the bright yellow of those same leaves in September, the brown of the soil (as compared to the black soil of IL, where I grew up), and the ruddy red orange of sandstone cliffs and spires.
These wall pieces are named alphabetically in order of completion. Oona is the 15th in the series.
