Skygazer Cabinet

$15,000.00

57” tall x 35” wide x 18 1/2” deep Dyed and undyed maple plywood, hand dyed handwoven cotton fabric, brass

The colors in the Skygazer Cabinet are green and Colorado sky blue. I chose these colors to remind myself (and you if you are so inclined) of how much I enjoy lying in the grass at the base of a tree and looking up at the sky through the leaves. Two doors on the front of the cabinet are adorned in an undulating pattern of upcycled offcuts of maple plywood cut at different angles, creating a dynamic surface. The small blue rectangles interspersed among the plywood are my hand dyed handwoven fabric. The stripes in the fabric are meant to mimic the thin stripes of the plywood endgrain, which in this piece, are dyed green. I’m messing with you, the viewer, so that it’s hard to discern what you are seeing. Most people, upon seeing this cabinet for this first time, have to be convinced that they are seeing fabric in among the wood pieces.

The doors have soft close hinges to enable a gentle closing action. When opened, they reveal two spaces bisected by a shelf. The upper space measures 12” tall x 33 1/2” wide x 17” deep. The lower space is 13” tall with the same width and depth. The door handles are made of brass.

I embraced my love of asymmetry in the design of the cabinet doors. I would list the ways I did that, but I think it would negate much of the delight you get when really looking at the Skygazer Cabinet. I already told you the secret of the blue fabric. You need to discover some things on your own.

If you want to purchase the Skygazer Cabinet, please select “Freight Charges Calculated Later” when the checkout process gets to the shipping options. You and I should discuss what shipping/delivery option is best for you. There are multiple possibilities for shipping this credenza, either by a professional shipping company or by me and my husband. In general, if you live within a 2 hour drive from Fort Collins, CO, I will deliver it for free. If you live a few more hours away, I will deliver it for a reasonable fee. If you live a lot further away, there might be a chance you could still convince me to take a road trip and drive it to you for a larger fee. Once we decide the best shipping/delivery option, I will then charge you the appropriate amount for the shipping.
