This wallpiece is a collaboration with painter Catherine Giglio. Cat and I took part in a group show where participating artists were paired up to create artwork in the theme of grace. Our piece, Grace Under Pressure, happened in a very organic and intuitive manner. Cat and I met and discussed our thoughts on what grace meant and what that might look like. I gave her some of my plywood offcuts to paint, with neither of us knowing what would result. Once she gave me her painted pieces, I cut them up and assembled them with other unpainted plywood offcuts, keeping our earlier conversation about grace in mind. I then passed the assemblage back to Cat who added some thread and antique tacks to finish it off. I was surprised at how quickly it all came together, and how Cat’s observations and comments affected my decisions when assembling the different pieces. What an interesting experience that resulted in a unique work of art that couldn’t have happened any other way.
